Wincanton apprenticeships shortlisted for Motor Transport Award
Wincanton’s wide-ranging apprenticeship programmes, incorporating our fast-track Future Driver Apprenticeship programme, has been shortlisted for the Apprenticeship of the Year Award at the 2022 Motor Transport Awards.
We rely on our 20,300 colleagues to deliver for our customers every day and supporting our people to develop and progress their careers with Wincanton is central to our business strategy.
Currently 2% of our workforce is engaged in an apprenticeship covering a wide range of skills in areas like business technology, finance, continuous improvement, and HR, as well as supply chain and engineering.
In the past year we have responded to industry-wide issues of recruiting HGV drivers by piloting and implementing our Future Drivers programme to attract, select and train new drivers. With 58% of this year’s intake to our Future Drivers programme under the age of 34, and 6% female (compared to a UK-wide average of 1% female HGV drivers), the programme is performing developing a more diverse pool of HGV drivers.
The Motor Transport Awards celebrate excellence among UK road transport fleet operators and vehicle manufacturers. The winners will be revealed at a ceremony on 7 September at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.
Sally Austin, Chief People Officer at Wincanton, said:
