Wincanton, a leading supply chain partner for UK business, is pleased to have commenced operations at Scotland Gateway, its new shared user supply chain hub. The site, which centralises Wincanton’s operations across the country, will provide a platform for growth and provide efficiencies for its customers in Scotland by replacing previously subcontracted services.
By July 2023, all Scottish customers in Wincanton’s Public & Industrial, General Merchandise and eFulfilment divisions will have their operations migrated to, and running through, the site which is strategically located 12 miles east of Glasgow, in Scotland’s Central Belt. Its 153,000 ft² internal footprint, which doubles in size with the full external site, provides an integrated range of services across warehousing, storage, and transport solutions. This includes Wincanton’s pioneering Winsight platform – the Group’s digital transport management technology – and its world-leading inventory management, provided by warehouse management system, Manhattan.
The hub is expected to create up to 100 jobs including flexible operational and driver roles. This will build on Wincanton’s “People Campus” model, its innovative and flexible working and training solution, which is designed to meet the recruitment and resourcing challenges being faced in supply chains and logistics. This model has already seen success at Wincanton operations in Doncaster and Northamptonshire in England.
Customers will benefit from the unique shared user environment, leading to synergies and more efficient operations as Wincanton applies its in-house expertise, fulfilling work which was previously subcontracted across thousands of transactions within the region.
Derek Stirling, Country Manager for Scotland at Wincanton, said:
“Our new Scotland Gateway site is a testament to Wincanton’s long-term commitment to Scotland, supporting the strategically important Central Belt and the economy through trade and jobs. This will improve our customers’ services across the entirety of the United Kingdom, cementing Wincanton’s position as a partner for each and every one of the four nations.”
Stephanie Callaghan, MSP for Uddingston and Bellshill, said:
“I am delighted that Wincanton has chosen Uddingston and Bellshill as the centre of its Scottish operations, supporting good local jobs and skills training, all at the beating heart of the Scottish economy. I look forward to strengthening our relationship with the Group in the year ahead.”
