Wincanton wins contract with Stuffstr to store and recirculate used consumer apparel

Wincanton, the largest British third-party logistics (3PL) company, has won a 12-month contract to provide warehouse space and fulfilment-operations for Stuffstr, the social enterprise dedicated to reducing waste by allowing consumers to sell back no longer used items of clothing previously bought from that retailer.

Wincanton is providing flexible and tailored warehouse space at its Greenford shared user site to manage this innovative collection and recirculation process. Returned items will be stored and Wincanton will use its complete range of fulfilment services to ensure as many items as possible are resold or, if necessary, responsibly recycled.

Stuffstr partners with retailers to buy back used clothing and footwear so items can be recirculated usefully and stay out of landfill. At the heart of the deal is a commitment from both Wincanton and Stuffstr to contribute to the re-commerce economy and ensure the retail sector is made more circular and waste is minimised.

Paul Durkin, Director of Home and eFulfilment at Wincanton, said:

"The approach to managing the return of used clothing items that Stuffstr has developed makes this an opportunity with enormous potential. Stuffstr’s commitment to increasing sustainability combined with Wincanton’s dedication to enhancing its modern returns strategy means this collaboration is the perfect fit.

"Our solution provides Stuffstr with a flexible, scalable and customer-centric service enabling them to grow their business and take full advantage of consumer demand for more sustainable solutions. We believe this deal marks the beginning of an exciting journey for both businesses."

John Atcheson, CEO at Stuffstr, said:

"Logistics are a critical component of our business: Stuffstr works because we make resale completely friction-free for consumers, and we can only accomplish that by collecting, processing and reselling the items ourselves. It’s crucial that we partner with highly experienced players like Wincanton to service this system so that together we can champion recirculation."
